i was principal photographer for the City of New Orleans. for one night. Access baby access. The only thing missing was an inner ear piece so i can talk CIA shit. Enjoy the shots.
the wonderful folks at The Joint – (poland/chartres) have just helped me give home to my landmark 2007 Chaz Fest portrait installation. It sits perfectly in the back. So go!
have the best BBQ in the city and support these wonderful cats!
So, i am not able to post any images from Jazz Fest 2009 just yet…not until they post them to www.nojazzfest.com…but i thought that these images were cool enough, and most likely they wont post them there anyway.
Each day at 9:30 i’d get to the Fairgounds…and it was eerie quiet. As the lines began to stretch down Gentilly, Mystery, and Sauvage St, there all kinds of happenings and beautiful moments.
i know this bike ride thing is insane. I was, to the point, being told by my close friends to “make this stop”, and “you’ll never make it”…all around a steaming crawfish table. And to this i say, remember the Adventure Race? 24 hrs of running, biking, hiking, boating? Yeah, i finished it. – and i am not asking anyone to do the whole thing w/ me – it may be too hard for you, i know. Just join me at any point on this trip –
anyone that wants to do a timing trial, im going out to do the route on Wednesday.

We had a custom backdrop designed by John Sherman at Flavor Paper (http://www.flavorleague.com/), and assembled 4 wooden panels, 4’x8′ in a large
“V” formation, and draped a sheet over the top for some diffused light. Ben Jaffe and Laura Tennyson of Preservation Hall (www.preservationhall.com), with my assistant Tamara Grayson (http://tamaragraysonphotography.blogspot.com/) – helped coordinate the location/installation of the backdrop (right behind the Preservation Hall Tent) and got musicians and artists to schedule their shoot.
Over 3 days last October, we cranked out roll after roll of film. Even shooting with an old 4×5 view camera donated by The New Orleans Photo Alliance (neworleansphotoalliance.blogspot.com), and a lens by the gracious, and talented Sam Portera (http://samuelportera.com/). It was a long weekend, and it couldnt’ have been done w/ out the help of Stephen Rehage (http://thevoodooexperience.com/2009/) (for the sweet spot!), Libra Legrone, Ben, Michelle Elmore (for the lips), 3 Ring Circus (for the hang), and to all the musicians that posed and hung out at the V.
All of these images are up on the smugmug site for your enjoyment…if you are an artist that i shot and have not recieved your images, please get in touch w/ me.

PS – looking to get w/ Joe Cabral….
Damn im glad its over. It was fun though.
This year, after saying i wasn’t shooting the Fairgrounds during Jazz Fest, i got hired by Jazz Fest to document the festival. As an official photographer of fest, i was granted access, and by access, i mean mobility. With the help of my bossman, David Foster, i could hit close to 65% of the artists playing each day – and i did that…shooting over 15,000 images – only to be whittled to around 120. (that of which i am doing today and tomorrow)
It was a busy week, waking up and getting to the fest everyday around 10am and staying till ater 8. i didnt’ do many night shows, i really couldn’t. But the 2nd weekend was the test, Rotary Downs had a Thurs night show, a Saturday Fairgrounds gig, and late Sat. night Saturn Bar blowout. Let’s just say Sunday was rough. I really dont know how i do it sometimes, and i realize that i wont be able to do it like that for long. But it sure is fun while im here…as i dont really like downtime. it’s nice, but there are too many things to do in life before i get my swamp shack.
be looking out for weekend Fest recaps at www.nojazzfest.com and on the interweb.
Chaz Fest 2009 photos will be up soon @ my smugmug page – www.zackattack.smugmug.com
Busy week…moving into my new place in the Bywater on Wed, and producing BROOKLYNOLA (WWW.BROOKLYNOLA.COM) in NY on Friday night.
