“Revolutionizing Photography: Unleashing the Power of AI with Lightroom Editing and Photoshop”
In the ever-evolving realm of photography, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has ushered in a new era of creativity and efficiency. I can’t tell you how many times I loathed opening up Photoshop as my finger quivered over the lasso tool….NOT the Magnetic Lasso mind you…the lasso! The new background selection and subject selection tools are by far my favorite. I rarely use the lasso tool to select anything anymore!
Adobe’s Lightroom and Photoshop have become the playgrounds for photographers seeking to harness the transformative capabilities of AI. If you are a paying member of the Adobe Creative Cloud then you get the updates constantly from Adobe, and the changes are staggering. The information that these apps have on how we do what we do is changing our overall workflow. This is a WIN-WIN from a client perspective and in-office workflow. From simplifying complex edits to providing innovative tools for experimentation, AI is reshaping the landscape of photography for both professionals and hobbyists alike.
The Rise of AI in Lightroom Editing
Adobe Lightroom has been a staple for photographers for years, I being an almost new add-on in about 2016. I fought it tooth and nail, as I do with anything ‘new’. With the incorporation of AI features, it has become a game-changer. One notable addition is the ‘Enhance Details’ tool, powered by Adobe Sensei AI. This tool uses machine learning algorithms to analyze each image and enhance intricate details, providing an unprecedented level of sharpness and clarity. I have used it to ‘up-res’ some images some headshot clients in New Orleans.
For hobbyist photographers, this means the ability to breathe new life into their images with minimal effort. Experimenting with Enhance Details allows for a deeper exploration of texture, color, and nuance, turning an ordinary snapshot into a visually stunning masterpiece. Think of this is like you would using the Editing Presets when you are in the develop module, but for a higher resolution low-noise output.
AI also plays a crucial role in automating mundane tasks, such as organizing and keyword tagging. Lightroom’s ‘Auto’ settings, powered by AI, can intelligently analyze an image and suggest optimal exposure, contrast, and color adjustments, giving hobbyists a starting point for their creative endeavors. We use it alot for batch editing New Orleans conference photography jobs, and it has saved us so much time.
Photoshop’s AI-Powered Magic
While Lightroom caters to the subtleties of image enhancement, Photoshop takes AI to the next level with its intelligent tools and features. One such standout feature is ‘Neural Filters,’ a collection of AI-driven filters that enable photographers to experiment with artistic styles, age progression, and even facial expression adjustments. I am really loving Generative Fill as well! Each week it seems something new is being Beta tested and offered up!
Just yesterday I used the ‘old school’ lasso tool to circle a large piece of hair on a headshot client’s forehead, didn’t enter anything in the prompt, and just clicked Generative Fill – and guess what? Photoshop recognized the area around it, and cleaned up the hair. It actually reproduced the skin tones on the forehead better than my clone stamp would have. I find this a valuable tool to use for my local headshot photography clients in getting them a faster turnaround rather than outsourcing those flyaways (which i do alot) and waiting a few days. See? A real life example of how new editing AI features are making my photography workflow more effiecient.
