We worked with Zack at the 2015 NASPA National Conference in New Orleans. He came to one of our sessions and setup a photo area for NASPA members for updated digital head shots. Zack was a delight to work with throughout the entire project. From contract generation to final product delivery, he was professional, yet personable, and his work is of the highest quality. It was great working with Zack and if I’m ever in New Orleans again and in need of a photographer, he’ll be my first pick! Thanks again! – 5 Start Review: Matthew Brinton, NASPA National Conference, New Orleans, LA
A great experience, got just the right head shot options. And after working with Zack for more than a decade on many projects, I can attest to his professionalism, gifts, and the awesome space he’s opened on Magazine Street. Highly recommended. – 5 Star Review: Bryan Boyles, Louisiana Endowment for the Humanties, New Orleans
I always feel really awkward having my picture taken, and I don’t usually photograph well. Zack was really good at putting me at ease. There were so many good photographs taken during my session with him, I had a really hard time narrowing down my selection. – 5 Star Review: Stella Shackleford, Lawyer, New Orleans.
I had the chance to book a photographer to take free headshots of local businesses owners in New Orleans. Since I don’t live in the area I was only able to review people’s work and speak to them on the phone. From the second I got on the phone with Zack I knew he was the person for the job. His “can do” attitude, flexibility, and ability to incorporate suggestions on the fly makes him a great person to work with. On top of all that, he’s also a brilliant photographer. He’s able to make people feel confident in seconds and help them bring out their best. From intimate portraits to big events, or in complete chaos, Zack is able to capture beauty and the energy of the room/people. I hope I have the opportunity to work with him again. – 5 Star Review: Noelle McEntee, SQUARE Marketing

“Zack made me feel very comfortable so I look relaxed in my pictures, and he took a ton of images at different angles so I had a lot to choose from. It ended up a hard decision because I ended up liking a lot of the images. When it is time to update my professional images, I will definitely use Zack again”

“Zack provided a wonderful service all around. He was communicative and very flexible as we coordinated many different team members to get headshots taken. He is personable and was able to help our team relax and feel confident as we took our photos. And finally, when sending our proofs and final edits, he was very prompt. We are very pleased with how all of our headshots turned out. Thanks Zack!”
REVE Realtors, New Orleans 2019
“Zack was able to schedule me super last minute for a professional headshot session the next morning after my call. He helped me decide on four shots of all the ones we took and then had the retouched versions to me by the end of that day. I was really happy with the result and have versatile options to use for any work photo needs. The studio is convenient to get to for where I live and I found free side-street parking close by.”

HEADSHOT CHECKLIST: WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOUR HEADSHOT
- Get plenty of rest the night before.
Feeling well rested means LOOKING well rested. Why? Long nights and no sleep mean puffy, red eyes and a swollen face. Be sure to drink lots of water and stay away from salty or fried foods the night before as this will keep you looking hydrated and healthy. Not really easy to do in New Orleans but totaly possible! Eat a good breakfast or lunch before your business headshot. Going into the shoot hungry can make you look drained and tense.
- Groom as you normally would before your headshot
For grooming and makeup: less is more! You want to look like you do you do in real life, so don’t go over-the-top or try anything too new and different the day of. Try to stay away from major style trends too because, while you want to seem up-to-date, you don’t want your headshot to look out of style as soon as next season. Depending on the poses you choose, your hands may end up in the shot, so make sure your nails are groomed as well. If you want to wear nail polish, consider a clear or neutral coat to avoid distracting from your face. And don’t forget to keep a mirror and comb on hand so you can check for stray hairs and do other touch-ups beforehand.
- Get your hair done the day of, and makeup at the photo studio!
I have great contacts to hair and makeup artists for business headshots, and they all live and work in New Orleans! It’s good to have your hair settle a bit before the shoot, but do your makeup at the studio so the makeup artist can do touch ups as you shoot. That being said, it’s not advised to actually get your hair cut the day of. If you’re looking for a trim, try to do that a few days before the shoot to help it look more natural, but there’s nothing wrong with getting a professional to style it the day of.
- Pick the perfect outfit.
Lastly, wear what you do on a daily basis to better show the character of your work. (Again: you want to look like yourself)! If your career is more traditionally professional then you may want to go for a more traditionally professional outfit, suit and tie style. But if you have a creatively oriented business, then you can show that in a more casual outfit. I can send you some gallery links to other creative branding head shots I have done Uptown and in the Garden District. Even if you’re going for a casual style, it’s best not to wear anything with words or quotes on them as these often get cut off halfway and look more awkward than quirky. No matter what style you’re going for, you can’t go wrong with solid colors and strong necklines and collars. Do try to avoid intricate patterns, logos, and numbers though because these can draw the focus away from the most important thing in the photo: You!
TO PROP OR NOT TO PROP: THAT IS THE QUESTION
Depending on the nature of your business, it could be helpful to have some props in the shoot. No, we’re not talking about poor Yorick’s skull here. If you’re a creator, bring some of your wares to the shoot or ask to have your headshots taken in your studio, office, or workshop if you want to give customers some insight into your process. This can also give you a “home turf advantage;” having something familiar can help you feel more relaxed and will result in more natural looking photos.
RELAX. YOU’RE IN GOOD HANDS
My goal is to photograph the best version of you. If there’s something you know makes you look better in photos, tell me! If you have a “good side,” ask t to shoot from that angle, or if you have an insecurity you want to work around, say it so I can help! It’s not gonna be the first time I have encountered someone who is embarrassed by their teeth or one of their ears. If you’re really nervous, ask if you can bring a friend. Having someone you know and trust with you can help you loosen up and smile more naturally in the photos. This also has the added benefit of another pair of eyes to help you look your best.
