Zack Smith: Photographer, Producer, Visual Storyteller

Zack Smith is a commercial branding photographer and video content creator that has been involved in the business, musical and cultural landscapes of Louisiana for the past 23 years. Zack’s headshot photography studio is located on Julia Street in the heart of the New Orleans arts district. Zack has helped create powerful photography branding campaigns for Brand USA, New Orleans Tourism and Marketing, New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau, CHASE Bank, LSU Health Foundation, French Market Coffee, French Market District, The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest, French Quarter Fest and many more.

“I see myself as a visual storyteller perpetually learning how to listen with honesty and photograph with intent. I see no difference in how I relate the vision of my commercial clients and my fine art portraits to their audience. We all have a story to tell and I find my creative muse in being the photographic bridge that brings idea to reality.”

Zack’s work has appeared in numerous ad campaigns and has done work for Getty Images, NIKE, YAMAHA, St. Charles Vision, KREWE, Dirty Coast, Harry Connick Jr and Branford Marsalis. Smith is very involved in the local music scene, and is a staff photographer French Quarter Fest, SATCHMO Fest, and Bayou Country Superfest.

Smith has been awarded “Best Music Photographer” from Offbeat Magazine in 2009, and has twice been voted “New Orleans Best Photographers” by Gambit Magazine readers in 2013/2014. Smith was also awarded “40 under 40” in 2008 by Gambit Weekly for his involvement in the local photography community as both a photographer and educator. He has been an avid supporter and volunteer for the New Orleans Photo Alliance since 2006.

Zack’s popular photography workshops are taught throughout the year in New Orleans and his blogs and vlog photography techniques and tips premier monthly where he offers practical advice to photographer of all levels.

In partnership with the Louisiana Endowment for Humanities and Louisiana Cultural Vistas, Zack is the host and moderator for “The FRAME: A Louisiana Photography Podcast”. The series is recorded live bi-monthly and features in depth interviews with Louisiana photographers.

Zack is currently serving as Grants Program Chair for the New Orleans Photo Alliance where he oversees two grants: The Michael P. Smith Fund for Documentary Photography and the Clarence John Laughlin Award. Zack is also serving as Vice President of the American Association of Media Photographers, Gulf Coast/New Orleans Region.
